Seasonality of Solute Flux and Water Source Chemistry in a Coastal Glacierized Watershed Undergoing Rapid Change: Wolverine Glacier Watershed, Alaska

چکیده

As glaciers around the world rapidly lose mass, tight coupling between and downstream ecosystems is resulting in widespread impacts on global hydrologic biogeochemical cycling. However, a range of challenges make it difficult to conduct research glacierized systems, our knowledge seasonally changing processes solute sources signatures limited. This turn hampers ability predictions composition flux. We conducted broad water sampling campaign order understand present-day partitioning associated solutes Alaska's Wolverine Glacier watershed. established relationship electrical conductivity streamflow at watershed outlet divide melt season into four hydroclimatic periods. Across periods, we observed shift nonglacial source waters from snowmelt-dominated overland shallow subsurface flow paths deeper groundwater paths. also low- high-efficiency subglacial drainage network flushing stored subglacially with higher loads. used calcium, dominant dissolved ion, samples estimate fluxes for each period across two seasons. found 40% 55% Ca2+ export occurred during late rainy period. coupled characterization chemical makeup magnitude provides new insight creates framework quantify predict changes season.

Effect of Watershed Subdivision and Filter Width on Swat Simulation of a Coastal Plain Watershed

The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) does not fully simulate riparian buffers, but has a simple filter function that is responsive to filter strip width (FILTERW). The objectives of this study were to (1) evaluate SWAT hydrology and water quality response to changes in watershed subdivision levels and different FILTERW configurations and (2) provide guidance for selecting appropriate water...

Using Ifsar and Srtm Elevation Data for Watershed Delineation of a Coastal Watershed

In this research, Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR) and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data are used to delineate a portion of the Saint Louis Bay watershed (Mississippi). In addition to these two digital elevation databases, the National Elevation Data (NED) and the United States Geological Service’ Digital Elevation Model (USGS-DEM) are also used for delineation. Resul...

Modelling Climate Change Impacts on the Seasonality of Water Resources in the Upper Ca River Watershed in Southeast Asia

The impact of climate change on the seasonality of water resources in the Upper Ca River Watershed in mainland Southeast Asia was assessed using downscaled global climate models coupled with the SWAT model. The results indicated that temperature and evapotranspiration will increase in all months of future years. The area could warm as much as 3.4(°)C in the 2090 s, with an increase of annual ev...

Land Classification and Change Intensity Analysis in a Coastal Watershed of Southeast China

The aim of this study is to improve the understanding of land changes in the Jiulong River watershed, a coastal watershed of Southeast China. We developed a stratified classification methodology for land mapping, which combines linear stretching, an Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis (ISODATA) clustering algorithm, and spatial reclassification. The stratified classification for 2002 genera...

Seasonality in spatial variability and influence of land use/land cover and watershed characteristics on stream water nitrate concentrations in a developing watershed in the Rocky Mountain West

[1] In recent decades, the RockyMountainWest has been one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. Headwater streams in mountain environments may be particularly susceptible to nitrogen enrichment from residential and resort development. We utilized stream water chemistry from six synoptic sampling campaigns combined with land use/land cover (LULC) and terrain analysis in geostatist...
